One converter for everyday units
Recipes, hardware, road signs and product labels use different unit systems, and switching between metric and imperial by hand invites mistakes. This converter covers the units people use most, grouped into tabs so you can find them quickly: length, weight, temperature, volume, area, speed, pressure, torque, power and time.

Temperature is different
Most conversions multiply by a fixed factor, but temperature scales have different zero points. To convert Celsius to Fahrenheit, use °F = °C × 9 ÷ 5 + 32. To go back, use °C = (°F − 32) × 5 ÷ 9. For example, 20 °C is 68 °F, and 5 °C is 41 °F. Kelvin is Celsius plus 273.15.
Where mistakes creep in
- US and imperial gallons differ. An imperial gallon is about 4.546 litres, larger than the US gallon.
- Fluid ounces are volume, ounces are weight. They are not interchangeable.
- Torque and energy share units. Foot-pounds of torque are not foot-pounds of energy.
- Rounding too early compounds errors in multi-step calculations. Convert once at the end.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert miles to kilometers?
Multiply by 1.609344. Ten miles is 16.09 kilometers. To go the other way, multiply kilometers by 0.621371.

Where a conversion is defined exactly, such as inches to centimeters, the result is exact. Others are shown to several decimal places.
