Create a free QR code in seconds

A QR code is a square barcode that a phone camera can read to open a link, show text or start an action. This generator makes standard QR codes for any web address or piece of text. There are no accounts, no watermarks and no expiry, because the code contains your content directly rather than pointing to a tracking service.

How to use it

  1. Type or paste your web address or text into the content box.
  2. Choose a size from 256 to 1024 pixels. Use a larger size for print.
  3. Pick an error-correction level (explained below).
  4. Adjust the foreground and background colors if you like, then check the preview.
  5. Download the PNG and place it on your flyer, menu, business card, product label or slide.

Error correction, explained

QR codes include redundant data so they can still be read when partly damaged, dirty or covered. Higher levels recover more, but they make the pattern denser.

  • Low restores roughly 7% of the code and gives the simplest pattern.
  • Medium restores about 15% and is a good default.
  • Quartile restores about 25%.
  • High restores about 30% and suits codes that will be printed on rough surfaces or have a logo placed on top.

Tips for a code that scans every time

  • Keep strong contrast. Dark foreground on a light background scans best. Inverted or low-contrast colors can fail on some phones.
  • Leave a quiet zone. Keep a blank margin around the code about the width of four small squares.
  • Size for the scanning distance. A common rule is that the code should be about one-tenth as wide as the distance from which it will be scanned.
  • Shorter content scans faster. A short link makes a simpler code than a long one.
  • Test before you print. Scan with more than one phone, then print a sample.

Common uses

Restaurant menus, Wi-Fi sign-in instructions written as text, event tickets and posters, product packaging, business cards that link to a portfolio, and links to a shop or social profile.

Frequently asked questions

Do these QR codes expire?

No. The code holds your text or link itself, so it works for as long as the destination exists.

Is it free for commercial use?

Yes. You can use the images you create on printed and digital material.

Is my content uploaded?

The code is generated in your browser. What you type is not stored on our server.

What format is the download?

A PNG image. For large print jobs choose 1024 px.
